EGMEDC

The European Genomic Medicine Consortium (EGMEDC)

Mission

A pan-European, non-profit consortium for all stakeholders advancing the clinical translation of CRISPR-based and related genomic therapies.

A Europe where patients with genetic diseases have timely, equitable access to safe, effective genomic therapies - developed, regulated, and delivered through shared European collaboration.

Mission

EGMEDC advances the development and delivery of genomic therapies across Europe by uniting all stakeholders in European genomic medicine: patients, clinicians, researchers, industry, and policymakers. We create space for open dialogue, shared learning, and cross-sector alignment so that no part of the ecosystem works in isolation.

By coordinating these efforts, the consortium aims to build an ethical, sustainable ecosystem for the clinical implementation of genomic medicines, and thereby to ensure timely, safe, and equitable access for patients.

Strategic priorities

Five focus areas guiding EGMEDC's work as the consortium formalises its structure. A full strategic aims document will be published in Resources.

  • Clinical translation

Advance the path from preclinical research to approved therapies by supporting trial design, manufacturing readiness, and clinical adoption across European healthcare systems.

  • Patient access & equity

Ensure that advances in genomic medicine reach patients who need them, with attention to rare disease communities, reimbursement, and equitable access across member states.

  • Regulatory & policy alignment

Engage with regulators and policymakers to shape frameworks that enable safe, timely approval and delivery of CRISPR-based and related genomic therapies.

  • Cross-sector collaboration

Connect academia, clinical centres, industry, patient advocates, and ecosystem partners to share expertise and reduce fragmentation across the European genomic medicine landscape.

  • European coordination & knowledge sharing

Disseminate best practices, publish shared resources, and build a common knowledge base so European stakeholders can learn from one another as the field evolves.

Who we bring together

As a consortium EGMEDC connects stakeholders across the genomic medicine ecosystem and ensures each group has a channel to contribute.

  • Patients & advocacy

Rare disease communities and patient organisations whose lived experience informs EGMEDC's priorities and advocacy.

  • Clinicians

Healthcare professionals delivering or preparing to deliver genomic therapies in clinical practice.

  • Researchers

Academic and translational scientists advancing the science behind CRISPR-based and related genomic therapies.

  • Industry

Biotech and pharmaceutical companies developing manufacturing, delivery, and commercialisation pathways for genomic medicines.

  • Regulators & policymakers

European and national bodies shaping the regulatory, reimbursement, and policy environment for genomic medicine.

How we work

  • EGMEDC brings together all stakeholders - patients, clinicians, researchers, industry, and policymakers – respecting national contexts while building shared European capacity.
  • EGMEDC is constituted as a non-profit association with transparent governance and clearly defined roles for its secretariat, executive board, advisory board, partners, and members.
  • EGMEDC's advocacy is evidence-informed, grounded in clinical, scientific, and patient perspectives, not commercial interests.
